Every estimator knows the night before bid day: bid schedule on one screen, sub quotes on the other, unit prices keyed in by hand. The quotes were priced on the original schedule, in their own units, and nobody footed them. Mismatches turn up after the bid is in.
One case on our Try page: a bid schedule, an estimate and sub quotes. Yesper footed each source first. One quote didn't add up, so its prices waited. The paving quote was per square yard, the schedule pays by the ton: entered as-is, $28,668 instead of $180,054. Nobody had priced the addendum items.
The quote that doesn't add up is a call to the sub tonight, not a surprise after bid opening. Same for the rest of the Try page: a detailed rail estimate, quantities from an IFC model, subcontractor tenders compared at full scope.
