Anyone who's priced a structural alternate knows the order: cost and schedule first, the carbon target after. That means a new carbon estimate the week the structure is picked. Whatever has no EPD goes in at a generic value, with a penalty on top.
One case on our Try page: hollow-core plank on steel instead of a post-tensioned flat plate. Yesper built the carbon estimate from the estimate export and proposals. The swap came in at 258 kg CO₂e/m², 8 over the owner's target. The steel proposal had no EPDs. With product-specific EPDs it meets the target.
You answer the owner before the structure is locked. The missing EPDs show up while the steel subcontract can still require them. Same for the rest of the Try page: quantities from an IFC model, cost by building element, a climate risk assessment.
