What a point is worth

Anyone who's come second in a best-value selection knows the meeting after. The gap looks small, the room splits: cut the fee, or write the technical sections harder. Nobody's priced a point, so the next proposal gets a bit of both.

One case on our Try page: a CM-at-risk selection lost in second place, despite the lowest evaluated fee. Yesper rebuilt the scoring criterion by criterion, in fee dollars. Winning on fee alone meant cutting the CM fee by 45%. One rating step in Proposed Personnel, the tie-breaker, was worth more than the whole 4.32-point gap.

You know what a point costs before setting the fee, not after the vote. The section that would've won shows up in time to write it. Same for the rest of the Try page: a go/no-go before you bid, key personnel resumes against the RFQ, a win-loss analysis of past pursuits.
