Anyone who prices design work knows this. Hours per device, times what's on the plans. The plans are still moving, the door schedule hasn't caught up, and one floor is probably a copy of another. A proper count takes a day nobody has.
One case on our Try page: the electronic security design fee for an office building. Yesper counted and priced it floor by floor: $62,419 for 131 devices. Doors secured on the plans had no security hardware in the older door schedule, and Level 4 was Level 2 mirrored, priced as a repeat.
The proposal states its count basis, and the gap between plans and door schedule is the architect's question now, not your hours later. Same for the rest of the Try page: a fee proposal checked against its staffing plan, quantities from an IFC model, a scope matrix for a bid invitation.
