Soil borings in 3D, 2150 SR 522, Willow Ridge, Nevada
Borings from the Phase II Environmental Site Assessment at 2150 SR 522, built as an IFC 4.3 model with one object per soil stratum and properties for depth, USCS soil type, and screening class. A cinder and slag fill lens above industrial screening levels runs through three borings inside the planned garage excavation.

Summary
Screening class
Continuous lens above industrial RSLs in the garage excavation
Black cinder and slag fill in B-6, B-7, and B-10 sits at the same level, between El. 4,481.9 and 4,485.2 ft. The logs describe it three different ways, but in the model it forms a lens covering about 6,760 SF of the excavation. Lead up to 1,850 mg/kg and benzo(a)pyrene up to 6.4 mg/kg (lab report pp. 9, 10, and 14).
About 585 CY in place should be segregated during excavation. Total lead exceeds 100 mg/kg, so run TCLP lead on this material before waste profiling.
DWG vs. boring logs
Plan and logs agree on 13 of 15 locations
The DWG shows 15 boring locations and the logs cover 14 borings. B-9 was not drilled where it is plotted: the log on p. 10 says it was offset about 23 ft northeast to clear a gas service line and drilled as B-9A, which is not in the DWG. B-15 was not drilled (log p. 1, no access).
B-9A is placed from the field note and flagged for review. Survey the location and update the plan.
Stratigraphy
Strata do not add up in B-5 and B-11
In B-5 the described strata cover 12.0 of 14.0 ft. The log skips 4.5 to 6.5 ft, yet sample B5-5.5 from that interval went to the lab (report p. 7) with 310 mg/kg lead and 0.88 mg/kg benzo(a)pyrene, above residential RSLs. In B-11 the lean clay and the silty sand overlap by 1.0 ft (log p. 12).
Both strata are in the IFC file with ReviewFlag = Check. Confirm the intervals with the field geologist.

The 3D view needs WebGL and the three.js library, which did not load here. The plan and section show the same objects.
Plan with horizontal slice
Each area shows the stratum at the slice elevation in the nearest boring (Thiessen polygons). Dashed blue line: garage excavation limits per Sheet C-201. Amber rings: DWG locations without a boring.
Section
Strata boundaries between borings are interpolated linearly to the midpoint and should be read as interpretation. Blue triangle: groundwater per the log.

Method
Boring locations were read from the DWG with coordinates and ground elevation and matched to the boring IDs in the field logs. Mismatches went to the IFC check.
Each logged stratum became an IfcGeotechnicalStratum with top and bottom depth, NAVD 88 elevation, and the USCS group from the ASTM D2488 description. Different descriptions of the same material, such as cinders and slag, were merged into one soil type.
Strata were checked against total depth. Gaps and overlaps were flagged, and a sample without a described stratum was added as its own stratum.
Samples were tied to strata by depth and screened against the EPA residential and industrial soil RSLs for lead and benzo(a)pyrene. The higher class governs.
Quantities in the garage excavation were computed with the nearest-boring method: each grid cell inside the excavation limits takes the stratigraphy of the closest boring.
Assumptions and limitations
Strata without an analyzed sample are shown as Not sampled and have not been screened.
Screening covers lead and benzo(a)pyrene, the analytes that drive the class in the lab report. Other reported analytes are below residential RSLs.
The residential lead RSL used is 200 mg/kg. EPA guidance applies 100 mg/kg where an additional lead source is identified.
NDEP publishes its own Basic Comparison Levels (latest edition July 2025), which differ from the RSLs for some analytes. Confirm with the NDEP case officer which comparison levels apply before the Phase II report is finalized.
Soil above industrial RSLs has not been evaluated as RCRA hazardous waste. That requires TCLP results.
The lens extent between borings is an interpretation. B-6, B-7, and B-10 are 42 to 46 ft apart.
B-9A has an approximate location (±3 ft) and uses the ground elevation of B-9.
Quantities are bank (in-place) volumes without side slopes.
Strata are linked to their boring with IfcRelAggregates, following the IfcBorehole description in IFC 4.3. This has not been checked against buildingSMART’s concept template; the BIM coordinator should confirm it before the model is handed on.
